FAQ

What is Scentsy?

Scentsy is a direct selling, wickless candle company headquartered in Meridian, Idaho. The company is owned by Orville and Heidi Thompson and sells its products through a field sales force of more than 100,000 independent sales representatives known as Independent Scentsy Consultants, who market and sell Scentsy products through home parties.

What products does Scentsy sell?

Scentsy sells wickless candles, ceramic warmers and home-fragrance products.

What are wickless candles?

A wickless candle, called a Scentsy Bar or a Scentsy Brick, is a highly fragrant wax bar that is warmed to release fragrance into the air. Because the wax is gently warmed rather than burned, it can hold more fragrance oil than a traditional candle. And, because there is no flame, there is no smoke, soot or lead. Scentsy wickless candles are a safer alternative to traditional candles.

How long will the candle bars last?

They will last about 60 - 80 hours, however, some have lasted longer. It depends on the strength of the fragrance, the air circulation of the room, etc.

What kind of wax is used in the Scentsy candle bars?

Many customers have asked about the wax we use and why. Here is the scoop. We use a food-grade petroleum based wax. We chose this wax because of its superior scent loading ability, melt point, and firmness. We looked into vegetable based waxes, and we just couldn't get a quality candle bar.

The issue of vegetable vs. petroleum [paraffin] waxes is raised primarily by vegetable wax candle makers because of the health risks associated with burning petroleum waxes. Most of the scientific research I have read (as opposed to sales literature) suggests that there are plenty of health issues with burning candles of any type of wax. Switching to vegetable based waxes does not seem to reduce the health risks as much as the veggie wax people would like us to believe. The Scentsy solution is simply not to burn the wax. The wax is not burned, and therefore, not released into the air to pollute our lungs, walls and furniture.
The type of wax we use is a non-issue, with regard to the chemicals released while burning. We only warm the scent out of the wax - the wax remains in the warmer, thus there is no danger of chemicals being released into the home.

How is the wax warmed?

Scentsy's beautiful ceramic warmers house a low-watt light bulb that slowly melts the Scentsy Bar or Scentsy Brick, filling your home with one of more than 80 unique, long-lasting scents.

How many sections of a bar should I use at a time?

Candle Bars come in six, break-a-part sections. Choose your favorite candle bar scent, break off one or two sections and place in our warmer. Next turn on your warmer and enjoy.

How hot does the wax get when warmed?

The wax will get to just above body temperature, so it won't burn or harm anyone.

How do I clean the wax out of the warmer when I want a new scent or need to dispose of the old one?

While the wax is warmed and melted pour into a disposable container and wipe the warmer with paper towels or napkins. Then just pop in another scent.

Fast Facts about the company: The Scentsy story

Scentsy began with a simple idea—a safe, wickless alternative to scented candles—and quickly grew into one of the most successful direct selling companies. This wickless concept was born when two stay-at-home moms began selling decorative warmers designed to melt scented wax with the heat of a light bulb instead of a traditional wick and flame.
Entrepreneurs Heidi and Orville Thompson encountered the small company at a home show in early 2004 and brought sample products home. They were intrigued by how fragrance brings powerful emotions and memories to the surface—without the safety risks of a burning candle. They purchased the tiny company and moved Scentsy to Meridian, Idaho, where the company's first home office was a 40-foot ocean shipping container on a small sheep farm.
Scentsy joined the Direct Selling Association (DSA) in 2004 and enrolled its first Independent Consultant. Since then, the company has expanded operations, hired a strong executive team, and received numerous awards for its growth and ethical business practices, including being named the number one consumer products company on the 2010 Inc. 500 list, appearing on the 2010 Direct Selling News Global 100 list of top direct selling companies, and receiving both the DSA's 2010 Success Award and the DSA's 2009 Rising Star Award.
In just seven years, Scentsy generated more than $700 million in revenue. Today, the company's family of more than 100,000 passionate Independent Scentsy Consultants shares the Scentsy experience and the Scentsy difference throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Canada, with a European expansion currently underway.
